India’s skipper and star batsman, Rohit Sharma, delivered a scintillating century to guide his team to a resounding victory against Afghanistan in the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Rohit’s phenomenal innings not only secured an eight-wicket win but also etched his name in the record books, propelling India to a dominant position in the tournament.
In a high-stakes encounter against Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma showcased his masterful batting skills as he shattered records with a breathtaking century. Rohit’s remarkable 131 runs came off just 63 balls, marking the fastest century by an Indian in an ODI World Cup. With this stunning achievement, Rohit left a resounding impact on the World Cup and reaffirmed his reputation as one of the world’s finest cricketers.
Rohit Sharma was ably supported by his team-mate, Virat Kohli, as they orchestrated a commanding chase. Rohit’s swashbuckling innings, filled with boundaries and sixes, set the tone for the Indian innings. While Rashid Khan managed to dismiss Ishan Kishan, Rohit and Kohli continued to march forward, undeterred by the situation. Kohli played a supporting role as Rohit’s magic with the bat left Afghanistan struggling to regain control of the game.
Rohit Sharma’s extraordinary century led India to successfully chase down Afghanistan’s total of 272, making it the fastest 250-plus chase in the history of the Cricket World Cup. His performance not only thrilled the fans but also bolstered India’s net run rate, enhancing their prospects in the tournament.
In the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma expressed his delight, stating, “It was a good pitch to bat on, just backed myself to play my natural game. I knew once I got my eye in, the wicket was going to get easier for me. It’s a special feeling to get a World Cup hundred.” Rohit remained humble about his records, adding, “Don’t want to think too much (scoring 7 hundreds in just three World Cups), I don’t want to lose my focus. You need to make such things count. You gotta make it big.”
Rohit emphasized the importance of the victory, saying, “It is about absorbing pressure and taking the right decision on the field. Leading up to the tournament, we had played such games. You have got players with different skill sets in our team. They bring different attributes of the game to the team and it puts you in good positions as a team when you have that.”
He also remained focused on the upcoming challenges, including the much-anticipated match against Pakistan, stating, “For us, it’s crucial that we don’t worry about external factors and just look at things we can control. It’s just about focusing on what we can do as players and how we can perform.”
