IPL 2019 DC vs CSK: Twitter reacts as CSK overpower DC at Kotla

Chennai Super Kings extended their winning run when they defeated Delhi Capitals at the Feroz Shah Kotla in the 5th game of the season. It was a comprehensive victory as the defending champions stamped their authority even under testing circumstances.

DC batted first after winning the toss. Prithvi Shaw played in his usual attacking manner in the beginning. But the surface wasn’t the easiest to bat on as it was stopping on the batsman. Shaw scored 24 before falling to Deepak Chahar in the 5th over. Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer came together and the scoring rate wasn’t the most inspiring for a while.

After 11 overs, the hosts scored only 70 runs. There was a sense of urgency in the middle as the pair looked to up the ante. But Iyer lost his wicket to Imran Tahir for 18 in the 12th over. Rishabh Pant came out all guns blazing. But the left-hander couldn’t repeat the heroics of the last game and got out for 25 courtesy of Dwayne Bravo.

Dhawan reached his fifty but wickets kept falling at regular intervals. The opener scored 51 from 47 balls before getting out to Bravo. DC ended with a score of 147/6. Even though the pitch was difficult to bat on, yet it was going to be tough to defend against CSK’s strong batting line-up.

The visitors lost Ambati Rayudu early in the chase when Ishant Sharma sent the opener back for 5. Shane Watson and Suresh Raina opted for the aggressive approach and made use of the fielding restrictions. After 6 overs, CSK scored 58/1 and at that stage, was in control.

But Amit Mishra removed both the batsmen in quick succession to keep his team in the hunt. Watson made 44 from 26 while Raina scored 30 from 16. The early flourish from the duo made it easy for the batsmen that followed. When MS Dhoni walked out to bat, CSK needed 49 runs from 58 balls.

The captain, alongside Kedar Jadhav, stood firm and took control of the chase. The conditions weren’t easy to bat in but the cushion of lesser required run rate didn’t let the pressure build. In the end, CSK brought up the target with 2 balls to spare.
