The drama in Indian cricket just got juicier. Reports of dressing room conversations leaking out have stirred a storm during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Irfan Pathan and Sreevats Goswami didn’t hold back, voicing their frustration over the breach.
Pathan posted on X, “What happens in the dressing room should stay in the dressing room!” Goswami joined in, tweeting, “How did the dressing room chat get leaked to the media? This is just not on.”
The buzz started after The Indian Express reported on head coach Gautam Gambhir’s fiery comments following India’s Boxing Day Test loss to Australia. Apparently, Gambhir was done with players sticking to their “natural game” instead of playing for the team’s needs.
Gambhir didn’t mince words. “I’ve had enough,” he reportedly told the team after the 184-run defeat. Without naming names, he called out the lack of adaptability and made it clear things needed to change.
It seems Gambhir’s frustration also stems from his disagreements with captain Rohit Sharma and the BCCI selectors over strategies and team selection. Reports suggest Gambhir pushed for Cheteshwar Pujara to be included for the Australia tour, but the selectors shot down the idea. Other disputes reportedly included picking players like Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar.
India’s troubles aren’t just about leaks. They’re trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, and the final Test in Sydney could make or break their campaign. The team’s been struggling for a while now, especially after their shocking 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand—the first time in history.
Things started strong in Perth under stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah, with a massive 290-run win. But after Rohit Sharma’s return, things went downhill fast. A 10-wicket loss in Adelaide and a rain-affected draw in Brisbane didn’t help their case.
The Boxing Day Test in Melbourne was the latest disappointment. India allowed Australia to post a huge 474 in the first innings and then conceded a 105-run lead. Even after reducing Australia to 91 for 6 in their second innings, the visitors let the lower order pile on crucial runs, setting a target of 330.
The chase started horribly. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul got out early, leaving India at 33 for 3. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant held the fort for a while, but then Pant’s reckless shot against Travis Head triggered a collapse. India lost seven wickets for just 34 runs, finishing at 155 and suffering their first Boxing Day defeat in Melbourne in over a decade.
