BCCI is all set to hold a review meeting at the BCCI headquarters on the evening of Saturday. According to a Times of India report, the review meeting will discuss India’s performance in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy that India lost by 3-1.
Team India suffered a 3-1 loss in the recent BGT Down Under that saw Australia reclaim the trophy after 10 years. After winning the first Test in Perth by 295 runs the visitors had suffered a 10-wicket in the Pink Ball Test at the Adeliade Oval. There was no look back for the hosts after that. The performances of Indian star cricketers came under scrutiny, the captain dropped himself for the final Test in Sydney, the rumours about unrest situation in the dressing room, and the buzz about Mr. Fix it in media made the latest BGT forgettable for the Indian cricket team.
As per a Time of India report, the BCCI officials plan to meet the Indian captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar at 5pm on Saturday to discuss all these issues that making headlines. “BCCI review meeting of India’s tour of Australia today in Mumbai at BCCI HQ in Mumbai at 5 pm. Captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir & chief selector Ajit Agarkar set to meet top BCCI officials,” the report read.
When India had suffered a 0-3 whitewash to New Zealand at home, a similar meeting was held ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. On that occasion the meeting lasted six hours with the officials like BCCI President Roger Binny and then-secretary Jay Shah. Gambhir’s coaching style was one of the agendas of the meeting for not delivering results as promised.
This time while Gambhir’s coaching could be an important agenda, the future of Indian test cricket is to be discussed as well. The future of veterans like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Test, team balance, issues within the team will be the major discussion points of this meeting reportedly.
