Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken a strong stance against misinformation on social media. This comes after a Pakistani journalist’s controversial claim regarding the Afghanistan cricket team following their impressive victory over Australia in the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage.

Afghanistan Stun Australia to Stay Alive in World Cup

Afghanistan produced a sensational performance to defeat Australia by 21 runs in a crucial Super 8 encounter. This victory not only kept their own World Cup hopes alive but also pushed Australia to the brink of elimination. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60 runs) and Ibrahim Zadran (51 runs) laid the foundation for Afghanistan’s success with a solid opening partnership of 118 runs. Naveen-ul-Haq (3/20) and Gulbadin Naib (4/20) then starred with the ball, dismantling the Australian batting order and restricting them to a meagre 127 runs.

Following Afghanistan’s historic win, Pakistani journalist Wajahat Kazmi made a bizarre allegation on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). Kazmi suggested that Afghanistan deliberately avoids defeating India in international matches due to lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts for Afghan players. This unsubstantiated claim drew sharp criticism from Ashwin.

Ashwin Demands Control Over Timeline on X

Ashwin expressed his outrage on X, directly addressing its owner, Elon Musk. He emphasised the importance of users having control over the content they see on their timelines. Ashwin argued, “I can’t tell you what to do @elonmusk but I should certainly have the right to decide who enters my house. My timeline my decision.”

Afghanistan’s triumph has significantly impacted the dynamics of the T20 World Cup. While they find themselves in a strong position, Australia now faces a win-or-go-home encounter against the undefeated Indian team. India has been dominant thus far in the tournament, registering convincing victories over both Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the Super 8 stage.
