Zoya is a tribute to Dhoni from the film’s director

The Zoya Factor is all set to release on September 20. The film’s director Abhishek Kapoor has told that the film is based on former India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The back story

Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer Salmaan starrer film The Zoya Factor is based on cricket and the story of luck factor associated to the game by fans. The story is originally taken from the story of Anuja Chauhan’s book ‘The Zoya Factor’, which became a bestseller book in 2008. It talks about a girl who was born on the day India won the World Cup in 1983. Since then she has been considered lucky by her father. Although she works in a client service company she later joins the cricket team and turns out to be a lucky charm for the Indian cricket team.

According to an interview of the film’s director Abhishek Sharma published on Bollywood Hungama, the film is a tribute to Dhoni on his behalf, although it not inspired by Dhoni from anywhere. Zoya Solanki, the role of the protagonist is played by Sonam Kapoor and the captain of the Indian team is Nikhil Khoda, acted by Dulquer Salmaan. Dulkar Salman’s jersey number in the film is 7 in the film, and thus the Dhoni factor has been associated. Abhishek said, “Dhoni is not just a cricketer. He is an icon, his thinking is very brilliant. He is amazing as a leader. So I tribute this film to Dhoni.”

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar shared his thoughts on Twitter after watching the film trailer. “Just watched the trailer of ‘The Zoya Factor’. All the best to my good friend @AnilKapoor’s daughter @sonamakapoor & @dulQuer for this movie.” A few days ago Virender Sehwag tweeted on the same line saying, What a fun trailer! Can’t wait to see the story of India’s lucky charm! #TheZoyaFactor Looking forward to the movie @sonamakapoor @dulQuer.”

Indian have always loved cricket to the core and done crazy things for the sake of the team’s win. The fans, the cricketers- all follow some superstitions when India cricket team is on the field. This movie seems to throw light on the same.
