Zaheer Khan talks about the mishandling of star pacer Umran Malik

Aiden Markram, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), stated he didn’t know why fast bowler Umran Malik was dropped for the majority of their games in the current Indian Premier League (IPL). The speedster had played half as many games and took five wickets at an economy rate of 10.35 before being removed from the starting XI.

Zaheer Khan, a former fast bowler for India, thinks that SRH handled Umran incorrectly this year despite the fact that he dominated the previous IPL season and was swiftly elevated to the Indian team.

“I don’t really know what’s happening with him behind the scenes,” said Markam while still labeling the fast bowler as their “X-factor”.

“I think Umran Malik has not been handled well by the franchise, the way his services should have been utilized by SRH. That is something which was evident,” Zaheer was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Zaheer Khan continued by saying that creating this environment and offering support are the most important things when it comes to young seamen. He continued by saying that regrettably, SRH didn’t stick to it, which is why Umran had a season to forget this year.

“When you are talking about a young seamer, you are also looking at creating that environment and support. That guidance is required. Unfortunately, that was not seen from SRH and that is why he has had the season that he’s had this year,” the 44-year-old added.

This shows that there was not a good atmosphere in the team and hence the results reflected it. Despite having one of the best squads, the team has miserably failed in this edition of the TATA IPL.

On May 18, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by an eight-wicket margin at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After losing against the reigning champion Gujarat Titans (GT) in their previous IPL 2023 match, the 2016 champions were already eliminated from playoff contention.
