Yuvraj Singh is the first and only Indian batter who smashed six sixes in an over. He did his special in Durban in the year 2007 during the inaugural season of the T20 World Cup. Before that special over, he had seen in a heated argument with former England player Andrew Flintoff. After that Stuart Board came to bowl the very next over and Yuvraj Singh did unbelievable things that people never imagined. He smashed over boundaries in all six balls of that respective over which amazed every cricket lover. That time former Indian skipper MS Dhoni was at the non-strike end and witnessed this magical over.

Yuvraj Singh Recalls His Iconic Over:

A video shared by ICC where former Indian star Yuvraj Singh was seen recalling his iconic over in Durban where smashed six 6’s in over pf Stuart Board. He started by saying, “In the last couple of innings, I didn’t do well. I was very keen to like get out there and hit some big hits and get some kind of form.  It was the 19th over, I had to swing everything. Freddy bowled two really good balls actually. One was the yorker outside the off stump, I managed to get it for a boundary. Then the length ball got a bit lucky to be find. In the last ball, I took a single. “

The Words exchange:

“ I was walking out like ‘sorry? What did you say’. Obviously, he was angry and the umpire came in. anyways, I was furious, I was so furious that I just wanted to hit every ball out of the ground.”

The first ball already went out of the park. I remembered hitting this one not even realizing how big that hit is. For every time I am playing at the death overs and I opened up my legs to get more elevation in the next drive. That was just in my arc. It was completely in my slot, i am strong on the leg side when I am going hard.”

“ so he tried too bowl new yorkers now towards my legs. I was ready for that. Looks like the ball was on the middle stump but just because he was angling in towards my legs caught my hands free again as legs were open. Just got a good contact on the bat and just not try to hit it hard. Freddy was not happy at the second six. He is smiling now.”

“Obviously, he bowled two balls on my leg side. I know he is trying to target the offside now. I was ready to hit on the off side. Its actually was not a bad ball. I was odd in the position. To the knew that he is trying to bowl a way swinger into my legs. But now he has bowled into my legs and he is trying and target on the off side.”

“If I was a bit smarter, I would have been starting on the off stump to know he is trying to bowl on the box. But i am just concentrating more on his hand over here, what is he trying to bowl. Here he obviously starting to bowl on the box and I got good contact on it. It was a longer boundary there to finish.”

When he was asked that even he thought to hit six sixes in his mind, he said, “ no, I have actually got 5 sixes  in my mind cause they triggered me in the five sixes.

While talking about bowling:

“Well, i bowled the 40th over for 2 runs. Everybody was getting smashed. I don’t know what came to Rahul Dravid’s head and told me to bowl the 50th over. I remember the first ball was a dot ball. Second ball Piyus Chawla caught it. I don’t know why he dived and he handed the rope and next four balls hit me everywhere. That was very demeaning as well. Because dont want to get hit five sixes. I have been in these plays you know. Hit six sixes were even tougher and getting hot for five sixes is not a good feeling. And i was like Demetry standing at the deep mid-wicket. Flintoff was at deep square leg. I knew where he was standing.”

“ Here what happens is at the last moment he has switched last second two balls over the stumps. When he did that in my head, i was like now that dangerous. That where i want him to bowl because he bowls two balls outside still keeps bowling from outside the box, it is not going to be easy for me to hit over covers for a six. If he bowls one low full toss to hit it over long of its not going to be an easy shot. But when he came on the leg side knew that even if i just get my bat on the boundary is very small here. I might be able to get one.”

“I knew where he is gonna bowl this i am just ready that it is going to be a full yorker  towards my legs i just want to get my bat on it. It was actually a very good ball, very full ball probably the best ball over the over. It just hit with the toe of my bat i didn’t get a good connection but a small boundary. “

“I was not nervous at all, he was the one who was nervous. I can see his body language.  If you see there is a smile on my face. You hit me over five, I hit five against you, and I am happy. This one is for me now. Five Demetry and the last one for me. Now here obviously, what are the options of the good bowler, who can not bowl a slower one. He can’t bowl a bouncer, can’t bowl a length ball. His only option was to bowl a yorker. He is going to try a full   and I am ready to hit him straight.”

“If you miss, I hit basic hits. I normally bat at number four and MS at number 5 so MS said to me ‘every time you come after me your strike rate is double.   Great thing about Freddy, he would probably talk about there after the game, and shake hands. Thats why I have a lot of respect for Flintoff.”

While talking about Broad, he said, ““I think that was a big moment in his career. Because he knew from here he has to add more variety in his bowling. He just can’t come and bowl yorkers. He has to bowl slower balls. bouncers. obviously , he was young, he was learning as well. And from there he went on to take 600 Test wickets. I don’t think if this moment would have happened, he would have ended up with 600 Test wickets. I think probably this has made him work harder and realize how important it is to succeed and have that feeling. So, I think definitely this is the moment that made him a legend.”

Later he added, “ This is one of the iconic moments I Cherish but if we wouldn’t have won the World Cup, it won’t have been that special.”
