“You can say it was an exercise in making excuses.”- Yuvraj about his yo-yo test

Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian cricketer revealed that he was shocked to know about his removal even after passing the mandatory yo-yo test. In an exclusive chat with Aaj Tak, Yuvraj shared a lot of things about Indian cricket.

Yuvraj about his non-selection

Yuvraj Singh was in a mood of particularly pointing out the issues the current Indian team is having during the chat with Aaj Tak. He also talked about his non-selection that raised a few eyebrows. Yuvraj took retirement last year and after that his father, Yograj Singh spoke about the same issue in an interview. After his father, now Yuvraj commented about the issue in public and expressed his dissatisfaction.

Yuvraj said that he had no idea that he would get dropped after being the man of the match in two games out of the eight or nine matched he was featured after the Champions Trophy 2017. He explained, “I got injured and I was told to prepare for the Sri Lanka series. Then suddenly, the yo-yo test came into the picture. It was a u-turn in my selection. Suddenly I had to go back and prepare for the yo-yo test at the age of 36. Even after I cleared the yo-yo test, I was told to play domestic cricket. They actually thought that I wouldn’t be able to clear the test due to my age. And that it would be easy to decline me afterwards…yeah you can say it was an exercise in making excuses.”

Yuvraj about the process

Yuvraj said that players like him, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer who had 15-17 years of international experience were never being talked to about the strategy of giving youngsters more opportunity. “I think it was unfortunate for a guy who has played 15-17 years of international cricket to not being made to sit down and being talked to. No one told me and no one told Virender Sehwag or Zaheer Khan either. Whichever player it is, the person who is in-charge should sit down and talk with the player that we are looking at the youngsters and we’ve taken this step.”
