WPL 2023: RCB sink further; lose against UP Warriorz by 10 wickets

Things are turning from bad to worse for the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women. They were humbled by the UP Warriorz by 10 wickets. They only reached a modest total of 138 while losing all 10 wickets. Although the target was not a steep one, it was not expected to be chased in just 13 overs. This took a massive toll on their net run rate.

Although RCB’s first week has been challenging, they have the weekend off and can only hope that next week will be better. There are many reasons for the UP Warriorz to be optimistic as they move forward, including the fact that their captain is back in form. This concludes the game.

Not only is RCB’s bowling ineffective, but their batting is also subpar, having been dismissed twice in 20 overs in four games. 138 was never going to be hard and UP Warriorz made easy work of the pursuit. Batting first, Ellyse Perry was the only shining light. She scored 52 off 39 balls to help RCB post 138. Sophie Devine scored a cameo of 36 runs in 24 balls but perished when she was looking threatening. Skipper Smriti Mandhana fell cheaply scoring just 4 runs. Ecclestone picked up 4 wickets while Deepti Sharma took 3.

Alyssa Healy had not scored in any of the prior two games, so chasing a low total let her take her time. Nevertheless, she didn’t need it because she reached her fifty off just 29 balls, setting the competition record. She narrowly missed her century by 4 runs. After being moved up the batting order, Devika Vaidya played second fiddle flawlessly. She rotated the strike and picked up the odd boundary. For the third game this season, RCB’s bowling failed to penetrate and could not take any wickets despite using 7 bowling options.
