WPL 2023 Purple Cap: Kapp rises to fourth position after her fifer

With the help of Pandey’s three-wicket haul and Marizanne Kapp’s outstanding five-wicket haul, Delhi Capitals Women were able to hold their opponents to a meager score. With the new ball, Kapp was simply brilliant as she quickly took down the opponents with her razor-sharp nip-backers. Lanning gave her a lengthy spell, and Kapp made sure to get her fifth wicket in her last over. She made a significant ascent and is currently in fourth place.

After outstriking three of DC’s main batters—Meg Lanning, Shafali Verma, and Jemimah Rodrigues—purple cap-wearing Saika Ishaque increased her lead in the WPL Purple Cap rankings. She was named Player of the Match on March 9 against the Caps after finishing her three overs with final figures of 3-13. She is the leading wicket-taker in the tournament.

Saika Ishaque is still in the lead with 9 wickets, but English sensation Sophie Ecclestone climbed up to second yesterday, passing Hayley Matthews, Nara Norris, and Kim Garth. Ecclestone, who has 7 wickets, is now very close to Ishaque.

Because of the flatness of the pitch during the match versus Delhi Capitals, Sophie Ecclestone’s powerplay bowling performance was less successful than usual. She immediately started bowling again after the break and got a wicket in her second over. She was the most costly bowler for the UP Warriorz, finishing with scores of 1-41, while not having the best overall performance. She slid to position 7 in the WPL Purple Cap rankings following her game. She made a strong comeback yesterday against RCB and moved up to the second place. Throughout the game, she got 4 wickets, conceding only 13 runs.

Hayley Matthews is competing for the Purple Cap with 9 wickets in addition to her being one of the leading run scorers in the tournament. Yesterday, Sophie Ecclestone removed her from the second place when she defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore with four wickets. In the third position right now is Matthews behind Sophie Ecclestone.
