World T20 to get Postponed? ICC Spokesperson Clarifies

Earlier in the day, PTI reported that according to a board member of the International Cricket Council, there is a chance of World T20 2020 getting postponed. The report further added that the decision will be taken on Thursday during a board meeting of the global body of cricket. But an ICC spokesperson clarified the issue to ANI as the day progressed.

The claim by ICC member

The future of World T20 2020 which is scheduled to be held in Australia at the end of this year. If the tournament gets postponed for the COVID-19, there is a chance of the BCCI hosting Indian Premier League in that window. On Thursday, the ICC will have a teleconference with all the members to take a final call. A member meanwhile revealed to PTI, “There is a good chance that postponement of World T20 will be decided during Thursday’s board meeting. Whether there will be a formal announcement or not is the question.”

He hoped that the host country would agree to the postpone along with other members. “There is very little chance of World T20 going ahead in this situation. I don’t think either Cricket Australia or the top boards will mind.”

Clarification by ICC Spokesperson

After this was reported by PTI, an ICC Spokesperson clarified the issue to ANI. He said that the plan is still on and preparations are ongoing according to the schedule. The Council is yet to take a call now and a discussion on the same is on the agenda tomorrow’s board meeting of the International Cricket Council.

“ICC has not taken a decision to postpone the T20 World Cup and preparations are ongoing for the event in Australia this year, as per plan. The topic is on the agenda for ICC Board meeting tomorrow and a decision will be made in due course,” an ICC spokesperson was quoted as saying by ANI.
