Team India is on a winning spree as of now, in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The team not only won 3 of their matches in the group stage while the fourth match got abandoned, but they also managed to bag a 47-run victory against their neighbor Afghanistan. With India’s next match knocking on the doors, people speculate that Sanju Samson is likely to replace Shivam Dube in India vs Bangladesh.
India will compete in their second match for the Super Eight stage against Bangladesh in Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Both teams are a part of Group 1 for the Super 8.
Will Shivam Dube get replaced by Sanju Samson?
The Indian cricket team has a perfect balance of players in their roster. However, a lot of these players have not performed to their expectations so far. One such player is the all rounder, Shivam Dube.
Dube has scored a total of 44 runs in the 4 matches out of which 31 runs were scored in India vs USA alone. His strike rate is just 83, and he has only bowled in 1 match so far. Despite being one of the only few left-handed batsmen in the lineup.
After the below par performances, Dube is expected to be replaced by Sanju Samson. Samson was seen practicing in the nets with India captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid closely monitoring his shots and giving him their insight.
India might replace Dube with Rajasthan Royals captain Samson who took his team to the IPL 2024 playoffs. Dube, who was taken into the team after his impressive ability to hit multiple sixers, has only managed one in the 53 balls he has played so far.
Why team India is likely to change the team now
The Indian cricket team has been winning matches, despite having close calls in the T20 World Cup so far despite having Shivam Dube, who has underperformed these days. Why does the team suddenly feel the need to replace him now?
Well, team India is playing a match against Bangladesh today, on 22 June, 2024 in the West Indies. India did defeat Bangladesh with a big margin in their warm up match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York before the tournament even started, so there is little chance they would lose the match now.
However, India is next scheduled to play a match against Australia, the team they lost to in the ODI World Cup 2023 finals and one of their biggest competitors. India would want to have no confusion on their playing XI before the big match if they wish to win against the Aussies.
India vs Australia is going to take place on 24 June 2024 at the Beausejour Stadium in Saint Lucia, West Indies.
