What Made Bumrah Angry in Johannesburg?

A staring contest between Jasprit Bumrah and Macro Jansen heated up Day 3 of the second Test between India and South Africa in Johannesburg. The umpire however quickly came in between and calmed things down.

Bumrah and was trying to get some quick runs after India lost a few quick wickets in the morning including their set batters. Hanuma Vihari and Bumrah were in the middle and once India’s second innings lead went past 200. Marco Jansen, Bumrah’s Mumbai Indian teammate meanwhile aimed bouncers to Bumrah after picking up the wickets of Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Shami in quick succession. One of the short balls hit Bumrah on the arms, Jansen gave him a stare, but Bumrah confirmed that it did not hurt him.

Jansen in the following delivery bowled another bouncer and the situation got heated up. Both started starting at each other. Bumrah went out of the crease and walked towards the bowlers. A few words were exchanged and eventually the umpire Marais Erasmus stopped the two. Bumrah ended up failing to connect a single ball in that over and was seen smiling at the end.

Earlier India lost two of the main batters quickly in the morning- Rahane left for 58 and Pujara left for 53. Hanuma Vihari came up with an unbeaten 40 but Rishabh Pant yet again disappointed with a three-ball duck. Shardul Thakur’s 24-ball 28 helped India go past 200. India’s innings finally ended on 266 as South Africa needed to chase down 240 runs to win the match.

The hosts are already dominating the match with already 118 for the loss of two wickets only. They have two days in hand and just need 122 runs to level the series 1-1.
