The two teams competed in a match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in West Indies on June 21. Bangladesh won the toss and in a smart move, opted to bowl first. However, the Indian batsmen showed up for their team, scoring 196/5 in the first innings. The Bangladesh batters got restricted at a score of 146/8.

What transpired in the Indian dressing room

Sir Vivian Richards was invited to team India’s dressing room after their match against Bangladesh in the stadium that was named after the West Indies legend himself. Vivian was invited by India’s fielding coach T. Dilip to present a medal to the best fielder in the match. Suryakumar Yadav was the recipient of the medal after his sporty effort to dismiss Litton Das in the 5th over.

After the short and customary medal ceremony, Richards looked very happy to be around Virat Kohli. The West Indies legend, however, seemed to stumble with his words when asked to give a speech on the Indian team over their performance in the World Cup.

“What can I say to a team that is already so powerful? You have a good thing going here.” He said.

Sir Richards also admitted that he would be rooting for the Indian team if his former team, West Indies, gets ousted from the tournament.

“I can only say that if the guys in Maroon don’t get it done, I’ll be back in here. Is that okay? that sounds reasonable enough as a Caribbean person,” Richards said as the dressing room burst into laughter.

Vivian Richards on “pocket rocket” Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant seems to be collecting praise from legendary cricketers like Pokémon. The young wicketkeeper batsman has shown great resilience after his impressive comeback despite just recovering from a nearly fatal accident he faced back in December 2022. It’s a well known fact that even the doctors were doubtful if Pant could ever play again.

Rishabh came back to cricket with the IPL 2024, as the captain for Delhi Capitals and was impressive throughout the tournament. Pant was also the highest scorer for India in their match against Pakistan and is a backbone for his team.

Sir Richards was full of praise for Pant and his comeback to the Indian team. He nicknamed him, ‘Pocket rocket.’

“Really good to see what you guys have here. Pant’s it’s great to see you bat man, what you must have been through. We could have missed that great talent and that’s exactly what you have to offer in the future. Just great to see you guys and the way you’re playing your cricket, love it enjoying it. Well done again!” Richards concluded.
