New feather on Kohli’s crown
In a function, on September 12 a function will be organized by Delhi and District Cricket Association at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. In that event, a stand will be officially named after Virat Kohli. The state cricket body will also felicitate the members of the Indian team on the same day. The function will also document Kohli’s exceptional journey since he took over the charge in all formats of the game. This tribute will be a part of the same. Kohli will be the youngest active cricketer to be bestowed with the honour of a stand being named after him. Bishan Singh Bedi and Mohinder Amarnath are the two other Delhi players who have stands after their names. But they were honoured with the same after their respective retirements. Virender Sehwag and Anjum Chopra have gates named after them while the Hall of Fame has been named after former India captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.
In an official statement, DDCA President Rajat Sharma said, “Virat Kohli’s outstanding contribution to world cricket has done DDCA proud. We are happy to honour him for achieving certain milestones and unbeatable captaincy record.”
Sharma explained since Virat played in Feroz Shah Kotla as a teenager this will be a fitting gesture. He said, ” To cherish these memories, DDCA wanted to dedicate a stand in his name. I’m sure the ‘Virat Kohli Stand’ will be a source of inspiration for Delhi’s young cricketers.”
He also added that for DDCA it is a matter of pride that not just Kohli but other Delhi players like Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma are regular members of the national team. Hence, DDCA has decided to felicitate the entire team and coach Ravi Shastri in that special function in Delhi.
