Virat Kohli Set to Achieve Historic Milestone: Joins Elite Club with Tendulkar and Dhoni

Cricket fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating another momentous feat in international cricket as the iconic Virat Kohli gears up to reach a remarkable milestone. Kohli joins an elite list 

This extraordinary achievement places Kohli in an esteemed league, making him the fourth Indian and the tenth player overall to achieve the remarkable milestone of 500 international caps. He stands alongside cricketing stalwarts such as the record-holder Sachin Tendulkar (664 appearances), the former captain MS Dhoni (538), and the current coach Rahul Dravid (509).

While cricketing legends like Shahid Afridi, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Jacques Kallis also feature in the top 10 list, Kohli shines brightly at the pinnacle with his exceptional numbers across all three formats. With 75 centuries to his name, he sits in second place, surpassing Ricky Ponting‘s 71, but still trailing the legendary Tendulkar’s remarkable tally of 100 centuries.

One of Kohli’s most remarkable feats is maintaining an average north of 50 across all formats, making him the only player to achieve such a feat among the pantheon of bonafide cricketing greats.

Virat Kohli‘s exceptional cricketing journey

Kohli’s career is distinguished not only by his exceptional skills but also by his adaptability to excel in different formats. He stands ahead of four other cricketers who retired while in the 490s – Steve Waugh, Muttiah Muralitharan, TM Dilshan, and Inzamam ul-Haq, the latter narrowly missing the milestone by just one match.

Having achieved over 100 appearances in all three formats, Kohli became only the second player, after New Zealand‘s Ross Taylor, to reach this milestone during his 100th T20I last August, in an Asia Cup match against Pakistan.

The grand occasion of Kohli’s 500th international cap coincides with the 100th Test match between India and the West Indies, two cricketing powerhouses with a storied rivalry spanning decades. While the West Indies currently lead with 30 wins to India’s 23, the latter’s recent form has narrowed the gap, having secured victory in every series since 2003.

Kohli’s illustrious journey as a run-machine in Indian cricket has solidified his position as one of the most iconic and defining athletes of the 2010s across all sports. At the age of 34, he remains a vital asset to the Indian team in longer formats, and his sights are set on conquering 30,000 international runs before his illustrious career reaches its conclusion.
