India will kickstart their run in the World Test Championship with two-Test match series against West Indies. The matches will be played between August 22 and September 4. The Test squad will resume action after the historic win against Australia earlier this year. They are favourites after clinching series wins in ODI and T20 series a while back against the hosts. Moreover, the Indian team looked settled after their good practice match against West Indies ‘A’. Overall Kohli’s team is in good shape to inaugurate the World Test Championship for them.

Captain Virat Kohli, has always stressed on the importance of Test cricket and shared his excitement about this Championship. “We all were looking forward to it. We felt like there were a few series in between where after big tours we felt like maybe a one-off Test or a couple of Tests were not apt for the moment. But this gives a lot of context to all kinds of cricket we’re going to play,” Kohli said about the World Test Championship.

Kohli eyes on a new record

One of the greatest of this generation, Kohli is a solid bat even in the longer format of the game. Whenever Kohli comes to bat, he assures to make headlines with new records. This time is also not an exception. Captain Kohli needs just one more century to equal Ricky Ponting’s tally of 19 Test tons as a skipper. With the first Test starting on Thursday, if Kohli manages to hit one century in North Sound, he will tie with Ponting at the second spot. Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith leads the list with 25 centuries in 109 Test matches including 17 centuries in 56 overseas encounters.
