In a pivotal moment during the Perth Test between India and Australia, Virat Kohli dropped a straightforward catch in the second slip, giving Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne a crucial lifeline.

The incident occurred on the fifth ball of the third over of Australia’s first innings, bowled by India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah. 

Labuschagne, batting at number three, had just arrived at the crease after debutant Nathan McSweeney was dismissed LBW earlier in the same over.

As the ball edged off Labuschagne’s bat, it travelled comfortably towards Kohli, stationed at second slip.

However, to the surprise of many, the seasoned cricketer fumbled, and the ball slipped through his hands, leaving the Indian team and fans disappointed. 

Labuschagne, unbeaten at 0, capitalised on this opportunity, adding pressure to India in the crucial fixture.

Bumrah Gives India Early Breakthrough

Virat Kohli‘s instincts and leadership helped India secure their first wicket against Australia. 

Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery trapped Nathan McSweeney on the pads, but the umpire denied the appeal.

Uncertain, Bumrah hesitated to take the Decision Review System (DRS), saying, “Close hai.” 

However, Kohli intervened swiftly, convincing Bumrah to take the review. The replays proved Kohli right, showing McSweeney was out LBW.

This early wicket boosted India’s confidence on Day 1 of the Perth Test. 

Despite the batting collapse, India’s fielding effort remained noteworthy with key contributions from Kohli and Bumrah.

Kohli’s Redemption 

Virat Kohli dropped a simple catch, giving Marnus Labuschagne a lifeline on zero runs.

Earlier, debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy fought hard, scoring 41 runs, as India managed only 150 runs.
