Virat Kohli batting at No. 4, risky enough?

Virat Kohli hinted about changing his batting order if required. He did exactly what he said. In Mumbai, Kohli was seen batting at number four which did give birth to a lot of opinions.

The No. 4 dilemma

Indian skipper Virat Kohli said if he had to accommodate Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul, he would think of batting down the order. He mentioned that in-form players are always assets for the team and according to the team balance he has no problem of batting at any position. “Look I am not possessive about where I play. I am not insecure about where I bat,” Kohli said in the pre-match conference.

With 134/2 on board Indian skipper was seen coming to bat at No. 4 and a lot expected him to resolve the never-ending problem for Indian cricket team in limited-overs cricket. India’s World Cup 2019 campaign was highly affected as India failed to find a suitable No. 4 bat till then. A number of options have been tried and test. Shreyas Iyer is one of the fewer names that seemed to have impressed most of the fans and critics as No. 4 batsman for India in limited-overs cricket.

No. 4 not suitable for Kohli

But now Kohli gave birth to a controversy whether he should be batting two down or not.
If we go by the records, Kohli’s statistics are absolutely not in favour of him batting at No. 4. Even today he got out for 16 runs and ESPNcricinfo wrote, “Going by his last few scores, Virat Kohli at No. 4 is perhaps not a good idea.”

In fact, in the last seven innings, Kohli has not scored more than 20 runs after coming to bat at number four with the highest being today’s 16. The team management is trying to adjust both Dhawan and Rahul alongside Rohit Sharma. But this might go against the team and also affect in Kohli’s batting although the two batsmen in question were brilliant in today’s fixture as well.
