Virat is a good Captain only because of Rohit and Dhoni says Gambhir

On Thursday the cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir again criticized Virat Kohli as a captain. He said that Virat Kohli is a successful captain because of his team. He clearly mentioned and stated that he is able to lead efficiently because of the presence of players like Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni in the squad.

On Kohli’s captaincy

Gautam Gambhir clearly explained that one’s captaincy can be well judged when you lead a franchise in the IPL. IPL captaincy, in this case, is one of the darkest parts of Virat Kohli’s cricket career till now. Speaking about the same Gambhir said, “Still a long way to go for him. Kohli was very good in the last World Cup but he has a long way to go. He captains so well in international cricket because he has got Rohit Sharma, he had MS Dhoni for a long time. Captaincy credentials are noticed when you are leading a franchise when you do not have other players supporting you.”

Gambhir went on to give examples of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni how they got success as IPL team captains. “If you compare that with RCB, the results are there for everyone to see”, the BJP lawmaker added.

On Rohit Sharma

Regarding Rohit Sharma’s inclusion in the Test team as an opener Gambhir vouched for the same and said a player like him should not sit in the reserve bench. “I think KL Rahul has been given a longer run. It is time for Rohit Sharma to open the batting in Test cricket. If you pick him in the squad, he has to be a part of the playing XI. If he does not fit your playing XI, no point in picking him in the squad of 15 or 16. He is too good a player to be sitting on the bench,” Gambhir opined.
