Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been left out of the BCCI’s annual contracts for the upcoming season. Most of the fans are taking this as sign of end to Dhoni’s cricket career and started talking about the same on social media.
What’s the story?
The Indian cricket board released the names of annual contract recipients for 2019-20 and Dhoni’s name is missing in the list. Dhoni remains silent on his absence from cricket since July 2019 and is in all likelihood set to play IPL 2020. Chennai Super kings confirmed Dhoni’s presence in the team as their captain which came as news of relief to many. Whether Dhoni would come back and play international cricket in future that has been a million-dollar question since the last few months. The board confirmed that they are moving on with Rishabh Pant and the likes. The man himself asked for time till January 2020. But now the BCCI’s move to omit Dhoni from the contract list looks like a sign to many.
Fans pour in love for Dhoni
Amid the love of the fans, there are experts sharing their views too. Harsha Bhogle wrote, “The biggest news in the awarding of central contracts is that there is none for MS Dhoni; which suggests, as some fear, that he may have come to the end. Would love him to have a big IPL with CSK though. And after that……who knows!”

According to Cricprabhu, People are surprised that no MS in the BCCI central contract list. Isn’t it the other way, and we must be surprised if only he was given a contract given the fact that he has already made himself unavailable for selection since CWC19.”

The Cricketwallah hinted that this might be a mutual understanding between the Board and the man in question. “How does one read M S Dhoni not getting a central contract? The BCCI giving him a clear signal, or mutually reached understanding? Remember, Dhoni hasn’t retired and will play the IPL. Consider also he hasn’t stepped on to a cricket field since the 50-overs World Cup.”
