On December 30, the Indian gloveman Pant suffered a terrible car collision. The Delhi Capitals (DC) captain, who amazingly survived the terrible vehicle accident last year, sustained numerous injuries to his head, back, and feet.

Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Capitals, won’t be available for the whole IPL 2023 after suffering multiple injuries in a car accident last year. In his absence, veteran batsman David Warner will captain the team and all-rounder Axar Patel has been chosen as Warner’s deputy.

Rishabh Pant’s replacement

Rishabh Pant’s replacement in the Delhi Capitals lineup for the IPL 2023 is expected to be Bengal keeper-batter Abishek Porel, according to reports.

A PTI journalist claims that Porel has performed well in the warm-up games and may be developed given his youth. Despite the fact that the Bengal keeper will be joining DC for the IPL in 2023, Sarfaraz Khan might fill in for the team’s first few games of the campaign.

20-year-old Porel has already competed in 16 first-class games, three List A contests, and three T20 games. In February 2022, against Baroda, the left-handed batsman played his maiden game in the first division. He has six half-centuries and 695 runs at an average of 30.21. In List A cricket, he also scored a half-century.

Porel provided Bengal with valuable Ranji Trophy contributions this year. He scored 49 against Haryana in the group stage, 51 against Madhya Pradesh in the first semi-final, and a resolute 50 against Saurashtra in the championship game.

Ricky Ponting, head coach of DC said that he would have ideally liked Pant to be with the team. Ricky Ponting, the head coach of the Delhi Caps, recently discussed Pant’s absence from the IPL 2023 owing to a car accident. The Aussie icon acknowledged at a gathering that the talented left-handed hitter will be missed and said:

“In an ideal world for me, he’d be sitting next to me in the dugout every match. But if that’s not possible, we’d like to make him part of the team in ways possible. We can have his number on our shirts or on caps. Just to make it clear that he’s our leader, even if he’s not with us.”
