This player to keep wickets for Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals are only partially successful in filling the void left by Rishabh Pant in their lineup. David Warner’s selection as captain solved the captaincy impasse, although DC has not yet named a replacement for the wicketkeeper position. Ricky Ponting has resorted to Sarfaraz Khan to take over the responsibility because Phil Salt is the only specialist keeper but is unlikely to play.

Sarfaraz Khan went through some keeping drills on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium during a practice session. During the intra-squad practice game, he also kept wickets. The 25-year-old will probably take his place behind the stumps when the Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2023 season gets underway if the practice sessions are any indication.

Manish Pandey is also an option for Delhi Capitals. Pandey has sporadically kept wickets for Karnataka including the game against Uttar Pradesh last year. He also did wicketkeeping during an A tour to Sri Lanka some years back. However, Sarfaraz is a far more accomplished keeper and is set to get the nod.

While Sarfaraz is likely to be the first choice, Delhi Capitals are still on the lookout for a specialist keeper. The franchise held trials last week with the likes of Sheldon Jackson, Luvnith Siodia, and Vivek Singh among the ones making an impression. A final decision on the same is expected in the coming days.

Pant’s car was struck with a road divider and caught fire during the collision, which happened on the Delhi-Dehradun route. Pant luckily escaped the incident. The incident took place in the Haridwar district between Manglaur and Narsan.

Ponting misses Rishabh Pant

Since Rishabh Pant was forced to withdraw from the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to injuries sustained in a horrible vehicle accident last December, Ricky Ponting wants the Indian to sit next to him in the dugout during every Delhi Capitals game.

“In an ideal world for me, he’d be sitting next to me in the dugout every match. But if that’s not possible, we’d like to make him part of the team in ways possible. We can have his number on our shirts or on caps. Just to make it clear that he’s our leader, even if he’s not with us,” Ponting said on Friday during a team event at a city hotel.
