“There was nothing I didn’t like about Virat Kohli…”: Justin Langer showers praise on the former captain

Former Australia coach Justin Langer praised flamboyant Indian batsman Virat Kohli‘s assertiveness on the pitch and claimed that the BCCI had wronged the former skipper by denying him the opportunity to continue serving in that capacity during ODI matches.

Notably, he made these remarks while Australia and India were playing in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021–23 Final. Langer, who is a member of the commentary team, gushed over Kohli’s love of the game. He also criticised the BCCI for denying him the opportunity to continue serving as captain in ODI matches.

Justin Langer said

“Loved his (Virat Kohli) aggression. BCCI did injustice to him, and I do not want to hear anything else. If he wanted to keep the ODI captaincy, he should have been allowed to do that out of respect,” Langer told while commentating during the WTC Final.

“There was nothing I didn’t like about Virat Kohli. His aggression, his passion, his batting. He was an amazing captain,” he added.

Virat Kohli was unceremoniously as ODI captain in December 2021, and Rohit Sharma was given the reins as the BCCI underwent organisational changes.

Virat Kohli’s Captaincy Record

With 95 ODIs under his leadership, Virat Kohli guided India to a stunning 65 victories in the 50-over format. Under his leadership, India lost 27 games, and 3 games resulted in a draw or no result.

Virat Kohli is India’s fourth-most successful ODI captain with 65 victories under his belt. He is behind players like MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, and Mohammed Azharuddin.

As the captain of India in ODI cricket, Virat Kohli amassed 5549 runs. These are the second-most runs an Indian skipper has ever scored in this format, trailing only MS Dhoni’s 6641 runs in 200 ODIs.

As India’s captain, Virat Kohli racked up 21 ODI centuries. He averaged 72 with the bat during his captaincy stint.
