The 48-year-old Pravin Tambe to Feature for TKKR in Caribbean Premier League

Pravin Tambe told the Indian Express that he would be featured in the Caribbean Premier League. Since he is eligible to play outside and the BCCI is not allowing him to take part it its competition, Tambe decided to take part in other global leagues.

Tambe’s IPL saga

Pravin Tambe, the 48-year-old leg-spinner did not get the feature in the IPL 2020 as he was disqualified by the Indian cricket board. The Kolkata based franchise Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for his base price of 20 lakh. But he was forced to withdraw for appearing in the unsanctioned T10 league in Abu Dhabi. According to the BCCI rules, a player needs to announce retirement first to get a No Objection certificate from the board if the player wants to play domestic leagues in other countries.

“Tambe has to retire in order to play foreign leagues. In any case, the IPL governing council will have to decide on his fate as he has already flouted BCCI rules when he played T10 league in Abu Dhabi. He is an active domestic player,” a BCCI official explained.

Tambe set for a ‘debut’

Now the Mumbaikar is all set for a stint in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for the Trinbago Knight Riders, co-owned by KKR owner Shahrukh Khan. “I am fit and since the BCCI does not allow me to take part in its competitions why shouldn’t I play in other leagues. I am eligible to play outside and got picked by TKR. I will also take all necessary precautions and follow protocols before going there,” he told the indianexpress.com.

He further added, “I am working on my physical fitness at home and so yes definitely looking forward to this edition.” The CPL is scheduled to be played between August 18 and September 10 behind closed doors in Trinidad & Tobago, after permission from the local government.
