In a monumental achievement, Yuzvendra Chahal has etched his name in the annals of Indian Premier League (IPL) history by equaling the legendary Dwayne Bravo’s record for the most number of wickets taken in the tournament. The crafty leg-spinner delivered a virtuoso performance, claiming four crucial wickets against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, thereby elevating his career wicket tally to an awe-inspiring 183 wickets.
Chahal’s feat is made all the more remarkable by the fact that the top five wicket-takers in IPL history comprise four Indian spinners, namely Piyush Chawla, Amit Mishra, Ravichandran Ashwin, and of course, Chahal himself. His phenomenal consistency and guile with the ball have earned him widespread admiration and cemented his status as one of the most potent forces in modern-day cricket.
A splendid record
Yuzvendra Chahal’s IPL credentials are nothing short of phenomenal, with the leg-spinner having claimed a staggering 183 wickets in 142 matches at an economy rate of 8.08 and an incredible average of 19.41. The wrist-spinner’s illustrious career saw him don the jersey of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from 2014 to 2021, where he emerged as one of the premier spinners in the cricketing world.
During his time with the Bengaluru-based outfit, Chahal made a significant impact, taking 139 wickets in 113 matches and cementing his place as their highest wicket-taker in history. Since his move to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2022, Chahal has continued to shine, scalping 44 wickets in 28 games.
Despite Chahal’s heroics, RR’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) proved to be a heartbreak for the Rajasthan Royals. In a dramatic last-ball finish, the team suffered a crushing defeat when Abdul Samad smashed a six on the final delivery of the game, leaving RR’s hopes of victory dashed.
