Sunil Gavaskar feels Chahal and Bumrah should be considered for Test cricket

Team India has been on a winning streak for the past few months and the men in blue have defeated team after team at home and overseas. Virat Kohli and his men have been invincible and the latest victims of them were the Black Caps who lost both the ODI and T20I series.

The Indian batsmen have always been known to deliver the goods but in the recent times, it’s the bowlers who have won the team several matches. The final T20I against New Zealand was an example of that where the bowlers defended a total of 67 from 8 overs and the 2 bowlers who rose above the rest were Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Where Bumrah bagged 2 wickets for 9 runs, Chahal conceded just 8 runs from his 2 overs. It’s not just this match where these 2 stood up but there have been several occasions where the duo did well. Where Chahal’s consistency has kept the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja out of the limited overs side, Bumrah has become the go-to bowler for Kohli and is extremely hard to score off at the death.

Gavaskar calls for a Test selection

India’s former captain Sunil Gavaskar is mightily impressed with these 2 bowlers who reckons that they bring their IPL experience into the international stage and deliver more often than not. He also went on to say that both Bumrah and Chahal are ready for Test cricket and should be considered for selection in the team that tours South Africa next year.

“They were fantastic. They have been absolutely terrific. They had brought all their IPL experience into play, they know exactly where to bowl, to which batsman what line to bowl, what deliveries to bowl and yes, there will be that odd over when they will go for runs but they come so strongly. That tells you about their (Bumrah and Chahal) big heart as well. Take punishment and then to come back and bowl deadly overs,” quoted Sunil Gavaskar by NDTV.

“Both these bowlers have been quite outstanding and I do believe that the way they are bowling they should also be considered for the red ball format which is the Test format. Particularly, I think both of them. Bumrah for example, you know in South Africa, Australia and England he will be quite a handful with the pace and with the accuracy that he has and Chahal as well, the way he has been tossing the ball up to the odd batsman, getting the ball to turn and grip, I think both of them are ready for red ball cricket,” he added.
