Sunil Gavaskar advises Rohit Sharma to take ample rest before the WTC final

Former Indian cricket captain and current commentator at the IPL Sunil Gavaskar suggested that current Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma should consider taking a rest before the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) Final, which is scheduled to take place from June 7-11 at the Oval in London between India and Australia. Gavaskar’s remark came after Rohit Sharma’s poor performance in a recent Indian Premier League (IPL) match, where he was dismissed for just two runs off eight deliveries, and his team, the Mumbai Indians, were outplayed by the Gujarat Titans by 55 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rohit should rest

Speaking on Star Sports after the game, Gavaskar said, “Rohit Sharma should take a break and keep himself fresh for the World Test Championship. Come back again for the last few matches, but right now take a breather himself. He is looking slightly preoccupied, maybe he is thinking about the WTC. I think he needs a little bit of a break.”

Gavaskar’s statement has sparked a debate among cricket fans and experts, with some agreeing that Rohit Sharma may benefit from a break to recover and prepare for the crucial WTC Final, while others argue that he should continue playing in the IPL to maintain his form and momentum.

Mumbai need a miracle

In addition to his suggestion that Rohit Sharma should rest before the WTC Final, Sunil Gavaskar also commented on the poor form of the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The five times champion team has struggled to find their rhythm this year, winning only three out of seven games so far.

“Only a miracle can take Mumbai Indians to the playoffs this season. They will have to play some extra-ordinary cricket to qualify to the final four.”, Gavaskar further added.
