Rajat Patidar was added to the list of injured players on Tuesday as the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter was forced to withdraw from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to an injury.

“Unfortunately, Rajat Patidar has been ruled out of #IPL2023 due to an Achilles Heel injury. We wish Rajat a speedy recovery and will continue to support him during the process. The coaches and management have decided not to name a replacement player for Rajat just yet,” RCB said.

Due to Patidar’s absence, Royal Challengers may need to change their batting lineup. Mike Hesson, the franchise’s director of cricket, had previously declared that Virat Kohli would continue to open the batting with Faf du Plessis even with him in the mix. Due to the injury, it’s possible that Kohli will move back to position three and Anuj Rawat or Finn Allen will start with du Plessis.

Despite not being chosen at the big auction last year, Patidar was brought in as a replacement midway through the season after wicketkeeper Luvnith Sisodia became injured.

His fastest hundred by an Indian in the history of the event served as an announcement of his entry into the Eliminator, and the ESPNcricinfo panelists rated that innings as the finest in men’s franchise cricket in 2022.

Patidar IPL record in 2022

Behind Kohli and du Plessis, Patidar concluded the season as Royal Challengers’ third-highest run-scorer. He had a strike rate of 152.75 and scored 333 runs in seven innings. His success in the IPL and his outstanding performance for Madhya Pradesh in their championship-winning Ranji Trophy season last year helped him gain a spot in India’s ODI team for the summer of that year.

Patidar’s absence isn’t Royal Challengers’ only worry, either. Also, Josh Hazlewood’s participation is questioned. The fast bowler from Australia is presently getting better from Achilles tendonitis.
