In the month of January 2020, Sri Lanka will be visiting India for a three-match T20I series. On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket announced the schedule for the forthcoming tour.

The story

Sri Lanka will play a three-match T20I series against India. Announcing the dates the BCCI wrote on their website, “In the wake of Zimbabwe’s suspension by ICC, the BCCI invited Sri Lanka to participate in the three-match series.” Sri Lanka cricket board gave confirmation for the participation of their team in the series.

On July 18 the International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Zimbabwe Cricket with immediate effect. The reason stated by the highest authority of global cricket was that the Full Member of Zimbabwe cricket board had failed to prevent government intervention in the administration of sport in the country. The final call was taken at the ICC Annual Conference in London. An ICC statement read, “The ICC Board unanimously decided that the Full Member had failed to fulfill their obligation to provide a process for free and democratic elections and to ensure that there is no government interference in its administration for cricket.”

Following the suspension of its cricket board, Zimbabwe’s participation in the men’s T20 World Cup qualifying tournament, starting in October 2019 is also uncertain. Zimbabwe Cricket will not receive the funding from ICC and the country’s teams will not be allowed to participate in ICC events until the suspension is lifted.

The schedule

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket jointly decided the dates for Sri Lanka’s upcoming tour to India scheduled to begin on January 5, 2020. The first T20 will be played at Guwahati followed by the second on January 7 in Indore, and the third and last match on January 10 in Pune.
