The 59th match of IPL 2024 was held at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad between Chennai Super Kings and host team Gujarat Titans.
Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to Bowl, hence giving GT a go ahead to bat in the first innings. Shubman Gill-led GT ended up scoring 231/3 in 20 overs while CSK lost the match at 196/8.
Currently, CSK is placed at the 4th spot on the points table, while GT is at the 8th spot with 12 and 10 points respectively.
“When you’ve got 100k people supporting you, becomes easier.” Says Gill
GT captain Shubman Gill opened up about a cramp and his fans supporting him at the post match event after the team’s victory.
He said that he was off the field because of a cramp, however it was easy for him to play well because he had 100k fans supporting him.
“Yeah just a cramp, nothing else (reason for being off the field). When you’ve got 100k people supporting you, becomes easier. Just the freeness of it. When we were batting out there, we didn’t have any targets in mind.” Said Gill.
Shubman had scored 104 runs in the match, hence becoming Player Of The Match, while his batting partner Sai Sudarshan scored 103 runs.
Shubman and Sai’s “good camaraderie”
Speaking about the stunning batting by both the openers for GT, Shubman Gill said that he and Sai Sudarshan had a good camaraderie. He termed batting with Sai as “lots of fun”. The duo had also batted together back in IPL 2023.
“We have a good camaraderie between us. Even last year we batted a lot together. Lot of fun batting with him. In terms of numbers, definitely it is (best opening partnership for GT).” Said Gill
Shubman also credited Mohit Sharma for his incredible bowling. He highlighted how the player had worked well in favor of GT in the last couple of years, even though he had a few bad matches as well.
“Mohit bhai has done this for us the last couple of years. Even last year, his bowling was a revelation. Even this year, two three bad games can happen to anyone. At one point we thought 250 was there for the taking. In the last 2-3 overs they bowled well also. Just had a feeling we were 10-15 short – not in terms of the match but in terms of the NRR going forward.” He added.
