Shubman Gill Becomes the Fastest Batsmen to Complete 2000 runs in ODI

In a highly anticipated clash between two unbeaten teams at the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, New Zealand faced off against India in Dharamsala. New Zealand, after being invited to bat first, encountered early setbacks as they lost their openers. However, a stunning partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra turned the innings around.

Daryl Mitchell played a sensational innings, notching up a century, scoring 130 runs, while Ravindra contributed a valuable 75. Their partnership of 159 runs set a new record as the highest partnership between the two teams at a World Cup, surpassing the previous best of 136 by Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth in 1987.

Despite the brilliant partnership, New Zealand couldn’t maintain their momentum as India’s bowlers, led by Mohammed Shami, made a strong comeback in the final 10 overs. Shami took five wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj contributed with crucial breakthroughs.

New Zealand eventually posted a total of 273, setting a target for India. Shami’s remarkable five-wicket haul made him the first Indian to achieve this feat twice at ODI World Cups. India now requires 274 runs to secure victory in a game that holds significant importance in the context of the World Cup.

Shubman Gill breaks record

Shubman Gill’s remarkable rise in ODI cricket is evident as he became the fastest to reach 2,000 ODI runs in just 38 innings. This young talent has made a significant impact in a short time. Hashim Amla achieved this milestone in 40 innings, showcasing his consistency at the top of the order. Notably, Zaheer Abbas, Kevin Pietersen, Babar Azam, and Rassie van der Dussen all reached 2,000 runs in 45 innings, underlining their batting prowess in the format.

Shubman Gill becomes the fifth fastest to complete 2000 ODI runs. Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer, holds the record for being the youngest Indian to reach 2,000 ODI runs at just 20 years and 354 days. Following closely is Yuvraj Singh, achieving this milestone at 22 years and 51 days, known for his explosive batting. Virat Kohli, a modern cricket icon, accomplished it at 22 years and 215 days. Suresh Raina reached 2,000 runs at 23 years and 45 days, while the young and promising Shubman Gill achieved this feat at 24 years and 44 days.
