Shakib Al Hasan became the highest wicket-taker in the history of T20 World Cup during the match against Sri Lanka on Sunday. At present he has 40 wickets in the tournament.

The 34-year-old all-rounder from Bangladesh took the wickets of Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando in the match against Sri Lanka in Sharjah cricket stadium. He overcame Shahid Afridi from Pakistan with 39 wickets in the process. The list had names like Lasith Malinga and Saeed Ajmal who had 38 and 36 wickets respectively. Shakib Al Hasan who is considered one of the best all-rounders of current times, shone in the 50-over World Cup in 2019 as well.

This match saw Shakib starring with the ball to give his team two quick breakthroughs. The intense game saw Bangladesh set a target of 172 for Sri Lanka. The island nation was doing well during the chase before Shakib gave two back-to-back setbacks in the 9th over. That did see Sri Lanka struggling a bit but they eventually won the match by 5 wickets.

Earlier Bangladesh opener Mohammad Naim and Mushfiqur Rahim came up with impressive half centuries and helped Bangladesh put a competitive 171/4 against Sri Lanka in their Super 12 Group 1 match in Sharjah on Sunday in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021.
