Shakib Al Hasan Picks Gautam Gambhir to Lead His IPL XI

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who is currently serving a ban shared his thoughts on his suspension, in an interview with Harsha Bhogle for Cricbuzz. Shakib went on to pick his favourite IPL XI where he gave the leading role to Gautam Gambhir.

Shakib regrets making a silly mistake

Shakib Al Hasan after his amazing stint in the World Cup 2019 was banned for allegedly not reporting the anti-corruption team after being approach by a bookie during an IPL edition. Speaking about the same, Shakib told Harsha Bhogle that it was a silly mistake on his part and nobody should take these calls lightly. “But I think that was a silly mistake I made. Because with my experience and the amount of international matches I’ve played and the amount of ICC’s anti-corruption code of conduct classes I took, I shouldn’t have made that decision, to be honest.”

He added, “I regret that. No one should take such messages or calls (from bookies) lightly or leave it away. We must inform the ICC ACSU guy to be on the safe side and that’s the lesson I learnt, and I think I learnt a big lesson.”

Gambhir to lead Shakib’s IPL XI

Shakib was asked to name his favourite IPL XI and he picked former India opener to lead his team. In his 8-year IPL career, Shakib has so far represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and is a two-time IPL champion with the Kolkata based franchise. No wonder he made Gautam Gambhir who helped KKR win IPL twice the captain of his XI too.

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner and former KKR star Robin Uthappa are the opening pair of the team followed by Gambhir and Manish Pandey at No.3 and No.4 respectively. Shakib picked himself to bat at No.5 and chose Yusuf Pathan and Andre Russell as the two all-rounders in the squad. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Laxmipathy Balaji and Umesh Yadav are the three pacers of Shakib’s team while Sunile Narine is the only spinner.

Shakib Al Hasan’s IPL XI: David Warner, Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir (C), Manish Pandey, Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan, Andre Rusell, Sunil Narine, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Laxmipathy Balaji, Umesh Yadav.
