Virender Sehwag called Bumrah the major weapon for Mumbai Indians following their impressive win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He also said that Bumrah is the reason behind the unbeatable Mumbai team.
Bumrah praised by Sehwag
Former India opener Virender Sehwag praised Mumbai Indians fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and termed him as a reason for Mumbai being unbeatable. While calling Bumrah Brahmastra Sehwag opined on Cricbuzz Live, “He (Bumrah) is Mumbai Indians’ “Brahmastra”; as long as they have the “Brahmastra”, they are “Ajay” (unbeatable)”.
By Brahmastra he meant the major weapon. Bumrah is one of the best in business in contemporary cricket and has been a mainstay of Mumbai. The match saw him picking up one wicket conceding 14 runs in his four overs. It included the important 17th over where he gave away only three runs.
Why Mumbai Indians are champion?
He further explained in the post-match presentation while Mumbai are a champion team. He recalled, “When Jonny Bairstow hit plenty from Krunal Pandya‘s two overs, that is why [Kieron] Pollard was brought on. They thought the way Vijay Shankar bowled, even Pollard could be useful the same way. That’s when I thought that we might get to see Hardik Pandya bowl as well. He is good at bowling the slower balls. His pace has decreased due to back problems and doesn’t bowl as fast as he used to but he’s good at changing the pace of the ball.”
Sehwag continued how Mumbai can defend low scores as well with the resources they have and also chase down daunting targets. “This is why we say Mumbai Indians are the best team of this tournament; that is because they can defend low totals and also chase down high targets. In the bowling department, they have Boult, Bumrah, Rahul Chahar and all three did their job very efficiently.”
