Sanjay Manjrekar has been reportedly dropped from the BCCI commentary panel. There is a chance of him being kept out of the IPL as well according to a source.

Manjrekar dropped from BCCI panel

Since his retirement in 1996, Sanjay Manjrekar has been a familiar Indian name in the ICC events. But he has not been found impressive in BCCI matches, according to a report of Mumbai Mirror. This is why the 54-year-old has been dropped from the Indian cricket board’s commentary panel that includes Sunil Gavaskar, L Sivaramakrishnan, and Murali Kartik.

Manjrekar was not present in Dharamsala for India’s first ODI against South Africa. This was not noticed by all as the game was washed out without a ball being bowled. The remaining two matches of the ongoing three-match series was called off on Friday due to the coronavirus outbreak across the country. So, cricket fans will not notice this change in the commentary box immediately. As per the report, Manjrekar will not be part of the upcoming IPL too which was deferred to April 15 followed by the coronavirus threat globally.

IPL without Manjrekar

“Maybe he will be left out from the IPL panel too. At this stage, it is not on top of our minds. But the fact is they are not happy with his work,” a source informed this to Mumbai Mirror.

The exact reason for not including Manjrekar to the panel anymore has not been revealed yet. He did not answer any calls or messages of the paper as well according to the report. Manjrekar despite being a popular name often attracted criticism during his commentary career.

His comments about Ravindra Jadeja did not go well when he called Jadeja a bits and pieces cricketer. A few months later he also questioned the credentials of Harsha Bhogle, another famous name in the circuit. Manjrekar apologized for both of his comments later on but it was probably not enough to control the damage.
