Former Sri Lanka captain and ex-chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya announced on Monday that he will take over as head coach after Chris Silverwood resigned. Former selector for the Sri Lanka cricket team Sanath Jayasuriya has admitted that Sri Lanka Cricket reached out to him for the head coach position. Jayasuriya admitted that he would be glad to take up the role.

“I have been asked to take over coaching and I am happy to do it,” Jayasuriya told AFP.

Jayasuriya, who played his last international match in 2011, has an impressive cricketing record, having represented Sri Lanka 586 times across all formats, scoring 42 centuries and taking 440 wickets.
