Sabbir Rahman escapes MS Dhoni, “Not Today”

Sabbir Rahman shared what he had told MS Dhoni after managing to escape a stumping chance by former Captain Cool of the Indian cricket team in the last World Cup. The group match between Indian and Bangladesh at Edgbaston in the 2019 World Cup was witness to the incident.

In 2016 T20 World Cup Dhoni had dismissed Sabbir Rahman and changed the game scenario. When in the 2019 World Cup a similar situation occurred, Rahman did not let Dhoni do the same. “Dhoni had stumped me during the T20 World Cup in Bangalore. He had a stumping chance in last year’s World Cup in England as well.” He explained how he returned back into the crease before Dhoni could get another chance of repeating what he had done in 2016.
Sabbir Rahman recalled the moment and revealed what he replied to Dhoni after being able to escape the dismissal. “This time, I slid back into the crease before him and told him, “Not today!”

The secret behind Dhoni’s bat

Speaking about Dhoni, Sabbir Rahman had also asked Dhoni about the secret of his bat. He wondered how every hit of Dhoni could go for a maximum. Sabbir Ranman directly asked Dhoni about the secret behind Dhoni’s bat. “I asked him what the secret of his bat was. Why whatever he hits goes for sixes when we have to struggle to clear the fence. He had said it was all about confidence,” he said.

The Bangladesh cricketer also asked the 38-year-old Indian batting giant to lend his bat to Rahman for the India match. Dhoni was ready to do the same on one condition albeit. “I had asked him to give his bat to me for the India match. Dhoni had said he could give me his bat but that I could not use it in the match against India. I could play against other teams with it.”
