Rohit walks the talk by stepping up for the team with a delightful half century

Rohit Sharma finally stepped up for the team to provide the team a much-awaited win in the tournament. Rohit Sharma had said after the last match that the seniors including him needed to step up for the team.

Rohit’s interview in the last match

“You need to try out different things, you need to attack and be brave. We have got a couple of young guys and got to give some time to them. They have real talent and we have to back them and show trust in their ability which we are doing. The senior guys need to step up starting with me.

Today, Rohit led from the front with a knock of 65 runs off 45 balls to help Mumbai edge over Delhi in a last over thriller. In the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, Rohit Sharma got his first half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2021 against the Delhi Capitals.

After a single off Kuldeep Yadav in the 12th over, Rohit reached his fifty off 29 balls, but he chose not to celebrate.

The last fifty the Mumbai Indians captain scored came against Punjab Kings on April 23, 2021, at Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. In that game, his 53-ball 62 helped Mumbai to a respectable 131 for six in 20 overs. Following that hit, Rohit went on a half-century drought in the IPL that lasted 24 innings.

Rohit had a forgettable league season in 2022, scoring just 268 runs in 14 matches at an average of 19.14, failing to record a single score of fifty or more. It was also the first time that Rohit had failed to notch up a half-century in an IPL season.

Rohit was removed for 65 off 45 balls as Mumbai Indians made it difficult for themselves after losing three wickets for only four runs while chasing 173.

Tilak Verma scored a crucial and quickfire knock of 41 in just 29 balls to help Mumbai chase down the total. He has been the lone warrior for the team so far, but today with help from Rohit, Green, and David, the team was able to secure a victory in the tournament.

With this victory, MI have finally opened its account in the tournament. They will look to build on the momentum from here on and string consecutive wins going forward.
