Rohit to open against South Africa in Tests

Indian selectors named a 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa. Whereas KL Rahul has been dropped from the side, Shubman Gill has got his maiden call-up in the Test side.

The squad details

The Test series will begin on October 2 and Rohit Sharma, the hitman of ODI side has managed to retain his side in Test even after not being able to plaiying eleven against West Indies. On the other hand, poor performance in two Test matches against West Indies went against KL Rahul. He has been kept out of the squad. Fast bowler Umesh Yadav also has not been able to find a place in the squad.

Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari have come along well for India against West Indies. While Agarwal has performed the role of an opener perfertly, Vihari had a great outing in the West Indies. Vihari even managed to get his maiden hundred in Test cricket after falling for 93 in the 1st Test against the Windies.

What Prasad says

The chief selector MSK Prasad clearly said that Rohit will be opening the side this time. “Rohit has been selected in the side as an opener. He will open in the three matches and also for the Board President XI.” Regarding Gill’s inclusion to the team, Prasad mentioned about his consistent good performance as an opener and a middle-order bat. “Shubman Gill has done well both as an opener and a middle-order batsman. So yes, he can be a back-up opener if needed.”
