In the second ODI against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma scored 64 runs off 44 balls, including 5 fours and 4 sixes. This was his 121st fifty-plus score in international cricket. He has now surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, who previously held the record with 120 half-centuries as an Indian opener. Rohit Sharma is now the leading player in this category.
In this match, Rohit Sharma reached a new milestone. After being dismissed in the previous game, he was just two runs short of Rahul Dravid’s record of 10,768 ODI runs. By scoring the first two runs in the second ODI, Rohit surpassed Dravid’s record.
India’s Heartbreaking Defeat:
In the first innings, the Indian bowlers showcased their excellence. After securing the first wicket in the first delivery of the innings, the Indian bowlers carried on their firm. With the ball, Washington Sundar was outstanding. He secured 3 wickets in 30 runs. Kuldeep Yadav secured 2 wickets in 33 runs. Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel secured 1 wicket each. They restricted Sri Lanka to 240 runs.
But the second innings was heartbreaking for India. While chasing the target of 241, they gave a promising start. The opening partnership between skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill lasted for 97 runs. Rohit Sharma played an innings of 64 runs. Gill added a valuable 35 runs. Virat Kohli was dismissed scoring only 14 runs.
Axar Patel played a crucial innings of 44 runs in 44 balls. Shreyas Iyer scored 7 runs. Shivam Dube and KL Rahul were going on ducks. Washington Sundar added 15 runs. But the Indian batting lineup was shattered in front of Sri Lankan bowling. Sri Lanka defeated the Indian side by 32 runs.
