Rishabh Pant must learn to correct his mistakes at the soonest says Ravi Shastri

Rishabh Pant is being groomed as the next keeper-batsman for Indian cricket team post Dhoni era. The youngster has been able to impress one and all so far but his shot selection has been a major problem. Indian coach Ravi Shastri also has the same issue with Pant and he has clearly shared their opinions on the same in an interview with Star Sports.

The story

As Indian team gears up for the T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia, one of the major issues the management wants to fix is the shot selection of the new wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. The selectors have clearly mentioned that Pant is being considered as the ideal replacement for Dhoni. But his inability to judge a shot often puts him trouble. Even with time, things have not changed; now he has come under the scanner of team management for the same.

Pant must learn to correct his mistakes at the soonest

The head coach is focusing on this area keeping the major tournaments in mind. Ravi Shastri clearly opined how it is important to deliver according to the team’s need. “There will be a rap on the knuckles there – talent or no talent – because you are letting the team down, forget letting yourself down. You are letting the team down in a situation where you have the captain at the other end. You have a target to chase where the need of the hour is some sensible cricket,” explained the coach.

What coach believes

Shastri, who has complete faith on Pant said that Pant must learn to correct his mistakes at the soonest. Shastri does think that it should take more than four games to resolve this issue. He almost sounded like giving an intimation to Pant while saying, “No one will change his style but match awareness becomes crucial, shot selection becomes crucial in particular situations. If he can fathom that out, he could be unstoppable. You mentioned how many games [it would take], it could be one game, it could be four games. I don’t see more than that. He will learn. He has played enough IPL cricket. So it’s time now for him to step on to the stage and just show the world how devastating he is.”
