Ricky Ponting names Sachin Tendulkar as the most technically sound player he has ever seen

Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar has been the greatest batsman of all time. He almost the sport for almost 3 decades and yet ruled the sport. He has set many records in World Cricket including 100 centuries, the most runs in ODIS and Tests, and many more. Former Australian legend Ricky Ponting showers praise on the Master Blaster and calls him the most technically sound batter.

Before Tendulkar turned 50, the cricket community gave serious thought to his accomplishments. The former cricketing legend has scored the most runs in both Tests and ODIs and has the most centuries in both competitions.

On the most recent session of the ICC Review, Ponting said that Tendulkar managed to fend off the bowlers despite the circumstances. He stated:

Ricky Ponting said

“I’ve said forever Sachin’s technically the best batter that I’ve ever seen, and played with or against. Whatever plan that we came up with as a bowling group, he found a way to combat it, whether it was in India or Australia. It’s hard to rank and judge players as everyone is different and everyone plays the game differently. But certainly, through the generation that I played, he was technically the best player that I saw.”

He further said that the straight drive was his best shot on the front foot as well as the back foot.

“I think his straight driving was his best shot. Whether it be on front foot or even back foot – because he was short in stature, he won’t mind me saying that – he was able to sort of stand up on top of the bounce of the ball and punch it back down the ground, off the front foot or back foot.”

Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting have faced off on numerous occasions, most notably during the 2003 World Cup in Johannesburg, where the former scored an ambitious 140 to lead Australia to a 125-run victory. They last faced each other in the 2011 India vs Australia quarterfinal match.
