Record breaker Kohli crosses Bradman

Virat Kohli, Indian cricket team captain finally hit his first Test century of 2019 and ended the draught. He went on to bring in the double century as well and with this, he broke and added a number of records as always.

Kohli surpasses Bradman and Gavaskar

Kohli, at first scored his 26th Test century in the second day of ongoing Test against South Africa. Then he made 150 and surpassed the legendary Don Bradman. As the captain, Kohli has nine 150+ scores which is one more than Bradman’s tally. Michael Clarke, Mahela Jayawardene, Brian Lara and Graeme Smith are next on the list with seven scores of 150+ each as captain.

Virat Kohli, who is playing 50th Test as skipper, now also has the most Test runs as an Indian captain. In this case, he surpassed Sunil Gavaskar who scored 2426 runs. Kohli beat Bradman on the list of most Test runs as a batsman as well, going past the legend’s tally of 6996 runs.

Kohli also joined the elite list of Stephen Fleming, Alastair Cook and Steve Waugh as only the 4th ever captain to score a century in his 50th game as the captain.

The fastest 7000+

The innings saw Indian captain crossing the 7000-run mark in Test cricket. Among Indians, Virat Kohli is the 7th player to score 7000 Test runs. The full list reads, Sachin Tendulkar – 15921 (200 matches), Rahul Dravid – 13265 (163 matches), Sunil Gavaskar – 10122 (125 matches), VVS Laxman – 8781 (134 matches), Virender Sehwag – 8503 (103 matches), Sourav Ganguly – 7212 (113 matches), and Virat Kohli – 7000* (81 matches).

Having taken 138 innings to the mark, Kohli is now the 3rd fastest Indian to achieve the feat. Virender Sehwag (134) and Sachin Tendulkar (136) are the two toppers. In the overall list, Kohli is now the joint 4th fastest to the landmark along with Gary Sobers and Kumar Sangakkara. Wally Hammond is the leading name in the list has achieved the feat in his 131st Test innings.
