The impact of Dhoni’s leadership extends beyond the field, as he is widely idolized by young cricketers across the country. Jurel meets Dhoni

For any young cricketer, the opportunity to meet a legend like MS Dhoni is a dream come true. 22-year-old Dhruv Jurel was no exception when he got the chance to have a conversation with Dhoni after Rajasthan Royals‘ thrilling victory over Chennai Super Kings. Jurel was over the moon when he saw the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman in person, and couldn’t help but stare at him for five whole minutes. Jurel eventually got to meet Dhoni after the game ended and he received some valuable advice from the veteran.

Speaking with Humans of Bombay, Jurel said, “I shared the field with my idol, MS Dhoni, for the first time. That day, I thought, ‘Nothing’s impossible’. It was surreal to meet players I grew up admiring.”

“When I saw Mahi Bhai for the first time, I stood at a distance and stared at him for 5 minutes. I thought, ‘Bas mehnat karni hai, waha tak pohchna hai. (I’ve got to work hard to be able to reach where Dhoni is currently).” Jurel further added.

Dhoni’s piece of advice

Not only did Jurel get a chance to meet Dhoni, but the legendary Indian wicketkeeper also spoke to the youngster and shared a word of advice. “Not only did I share a field with Mahi Bhai, but I also spoke to him! When I asked him how he always stays calm, he said, ‘As a finisher, you only get 1-2 overs to make your mark. Just believe in yourself and start hitting,” Jurel mentioned.
