PMO Applauds Raina for his ‘Inspiring Role’

On Friday Suresh Raina took to his social media to thank the PM of India, Narendra Modi for his appreciation for him following his retirement from international cricket.

Modi’s letter to Raina

On August 15 Suresh Raina followed Mahendra Singh Dhoni and announced retirement from international cricket soon after the latter’s Instagram post. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of the country sent a letter to Suresh Raina where he praised Raina for him impact on the game. Not just for batting Modi’s praise was for Raina’s “exemplary and inspiring” fielding as well. Moreover, Modi went on to recall Raina’s contribution in the quarter-finals against Australia in the 2011 World Cup in Motera stadium, saying “India can never forget your inspiring role” in the match. The Prime Minister hailed Raina’s team spirit saying, “you played not for personal glory but for the glory of your team and the glory of India”.

When Dhoni asked Raina to Follow his Instructions

Modi said that generations will remember Suresh Raina and penned down lines on his journey since the beginning. You have lived and breathed cricket. Your interest in the sport began early in life, in the by-lanes of Muradnagar and subsequently found feet in the playgrounds of Lucknow. There on, what an eventful journey it has been, culminating in the most important honour of representing India – a country you love deeply – in all three forms of the game.”

Suresh Raina who just like Dhoni announced retirement with just a social media post shared Modi’s letter and wrote, “When we play, we give our blood & sweat for the nation. No better appreciation than being loved by the people of this country and even more by the country’s PM.” He further added, “Thank you @narendramodi ji for your words of appreciation & best wishes. I accept them with gratitude. Jai Hind.”

“Raina’s Numbers could have been better, but…”

A letter was sent to former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as well from the Prime Minister’s Office.
