PCB Set to Get New Chairman

Ramiz Raja is going to be the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He will be replacing Ehsan Mani once the succession process is complete.

New PCB Chairman

Ramiz Raja and Ehsan Mani met the Prime Minister on Monday afternoon. Once the meeting was over, Raja was quoted by Cricbuzz saying, ‘I have given him (Imran Khan) my plans. He will make a call.” Eventually it took three days to make a final decision after a go-ahead nod from the Imran Khan. Ramiz confirmed that he accepted the job and said, “The aim is to reset Pakistan cricket team GPS and will be in pursuit of excellence.”

Ehsan Mani will now ensure a smooth transition of power. He is already 76 years old and his approach to the BCCI did not go well with many, reportedly. However, he was an experienced name in cricket administration in both PCB and International Cricket Council.

Formal Process to be Followed

However, the new appointment at the Pakistan Cricket Board will take time. There’s a few process that needs to be followed. His name first will be forwarded to the Board of Governors of the PCB, being one of the two nominees. If another BoG members wants to contest, there could be an election. But there is very less chance like this after PM’s say. A PM’s nominee is unlikely to meet any resistance. Even when nominated by Imran three years ago, Mani was elected unopposed. Things should not be otherwise for Ramiz Raja.

The second member to be nominated by the Prime Minister is reportedly noted businessman – Asad Ali Khan. There are seven on the BOG currently in the Pakistan Cricket Board – four independent directors, CEO (Wasim Khan) and two nominees of the Prime Minister.
