Pant Goes for His Signature Six Amid India’s Top-Order Collapse

Indian batters are having a tough time in the match against Pakistan in the Super 12 today. This is a the tournament opener for the arch-rivals and as always the ambiance is intense. Meanwhile Virat Kohli lost the toss and Indians asked to bat first. The nature of pitch makes things relatively easier for the teams chasing down. However, the star-studded Indian batting line up was not expected to collapse.

It started by Rohit Sharma leaving for a duck. KL Rahul followed soon for 3 runs and both wickets were taken by the fiery Shaheen Shah Afridi. Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli brought stability before Suryakumar left for 11 off 8 after smashing a four and a six. Just when Indian fans started looking up to the partnership, Suryakumar was dismissed by Hasan Ali. Rishabh Pant was the new batter to walk in.

Pant along with Kohli once again slowly and steadily built an important partnership for India. They took time, were not in hurry, and focused on taking singles. In the 8th over, Pant faced a good length ball and he attempted for a reverse sweep. Pakistan keeper was convinced of dismissing Pant but neither the Indian batters nor the on-filed umpire looked confused for a moment. Pakistan decided to take a review but the final decision also went in India’s favour.

Pant was batting on 5 at this point. The partnership just started to grow and India needed two of their most prolific batters to get some runs in the important match today. Pant started to come in full flow and hit boundaries whenever he got an opportunity. With 66/3 in 11 overs, Pant started playing his shots. The over saw him smashing two maximums- his signature ones, the one-handed over-boundaries! And he aimed for another in the next over. Unfortunately, this time, the ball landed in the hands of Shadab Khan and Pant’s innings came to an end.

However, before leaving for 39 off 30, Pant gave India the boost it required. With Virat Kohli still in the middle along with Ravindra Jadeja and with a few overs in hand, India can still hope to put on a competitive target.
