Orange Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated After MI vs RR Match 42

It was a day dedicated to chases as both the games saw 200+ being chased down consecutively. In the first game, Punjab Kings breached the Chepauk fortress to chase down CSK’s total of 200. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals failed to defend a total of 212 runs against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. However, in a very surprising turn of events, the Orange Cap and the Purple Cap are now both honed by uncapped Indian players.

Yashasvi Jaiswal hits maiden 100

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exceptional performance against Mumbai Indians was a masterclass in cricketing prowess. The 21-year-old defied a sluggish pitch to score an unbeaten 124 off just 62 balls, with 16 fours and eight towering sixes. His century was the top score by an uncapped Indian batter in the IPL and had the second-highest percentage of runs in boundaries in men’s T20s.

Jaiswal’s innings propelled him to the top of the Orange Cap list, a fitting recognition of his immense talent. His remarkable display was a glimpse into the future of Indian cricket, showcasing the young talent that is set to take the cricketing world by storm. He has replaced RCB’s skipper Faf du Plessis, who has now moved down to the second spot. Jaiswal has 428 in 9 games at an average of 47.56.

Gaikwad-Conway duo does it again

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway’s formidable opening partnership proved too much for Punjab Kings in the sweltering Chennai heat. Gaikwad demonstrated excellent timing, while Conway opted for aerial shots, hitting Curran for back-to-back boundaries in the sixth over, which yielded 16 runs.

The duo stitched together an impressive 86-run stand for the first wicket in just 9.4 overs. Gaikwad departed after contributing 37 runs, but Conway continued to pummel Punjab Kings’ bowlers, finishing unbeaten on 92 with 16 fours and a six. His impeccable technique and unbridled aggression ensured that the opposition was left in awe of his exceptional talent as he led his team to a commanding victory.

After today’s run fest against the Punjab Kings, Conway and Gaikwad both have moved up by one spot, taking the 3rd and 4th place in the Orange Cap list respectively. Conway has 414 runs to his name in 9 games, whereas his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad has 354 runs in the same number of games.
